Fried Products Corporation Announced today that Irving M. ("Bud") Fried died March 31, 2005 in the Philadelphia suburbs. Mr. Fried was 84 years old. "Bud had been described as the last surviving giant of 20th century audio. His products had been pushing the envelope of audio performance for over forty years and been acclaimed as amongst the finest worldwide. It was very important to him that his belief in truth as the central tenet of audio reproduction continue; and it was an honor to have known him for so many years as he pursued this goal. He was an educated, civilized man and true friend" said the current President and CEO of Fried Products Corporation; which had been founded by a group of audiophiles, including Mr. Fried in 2004 to preserve, protect and advance the art and science of loudspeaker technology. "Bud had an incredible intuitive feel for design, "notes the Corporation's COO and EVP Design and Quality Control. "Having known his work for over thiry years, and actively designed with him for over two decades, I was always impressed by his flashes of insight and spontaneity. He was a gifted artisan. It was an honor for me to see, before his death, that he chose my Studio 7 design to replace his C satellite O subwoofer combination as his personal reference system in his own home." A close friend of Bud's, himself a physicist and connoisseur of classical music, remembered Bud's encyclopedic knowledge and love of music, combined with a physicists curiosity. "Valhalla, for Bud, was the intersection of art and science." Another friend and an accomplished graphic artist added," When I first met Bud, I was immediately struck by his receptivity to new ideas. He was among the youngest older people I have ever met." Born in 1920 outside Philadelphia, Bud fell in love with the art and science of sound reproduction as a child when he heard the sound of Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra emerging from the large theatre horns of his father's movie theaters. Bud attended Harvard University (1938) served in the South Pacific in World War II, and later returned to Harvard where he completed his education in law, as well as physics. In 1957, Bud began a lifelong involvement with the audio industry. His involvement with legendary names and products reads like a veritable Pantheon of what would become Hi-End Audio. Bud's philosophy and speaker design legacy will continue through Fried Products Corporation. Bud is survived by his wife Jane and daughter Liz.
January 14, 2005 Fried Showcases New Speaker Designs at CES; Attendees Are Receptive and Nostalgic Fried Products exhibited at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas (Alexis Park Suite 1553), and introduced 3 new speaker designs. The time honored design principals that are the hallmark of Fried loudspeakers were the genesis of the company's new products. However, building upon over three decades of experience, the Company's 21st century products incorporated advances in design technology that eclipsed the sound reproduction quality of any previous speakers bearing the name. The models presented at the show were: The Monitor 7, a two-way, transmission line floor standing system with series crossover. The Studio 7, a three-way, dual transmission line with series crossover. In addition, The Reference, an accumulation of all Fried has learned in a no compromise definitive statement in the reproduction of music was previewed. May 11, 2004 Gladwyne, Pennsylvania Irving "Bud" Fried to Join Fried Products Corporation In an open letter on the new company's web page (www.friedproducts.com), Irving "Bud" Fried announced his affiliation with FRIED PRODUCTS CORPORATION, based outside Philadelphia Pennsylvania. According to Mr. Fried "The spirit of the past joins with younger and more able people, in the exciting and inspiring project of continuing to modify and improve on the standards of the past." Fried's first new products, the 2-way Monitor 7 and 3-way Studio 7 should be available this Fall. Orders may be placed through authorized FRIED dealers.
