For reproduction that is clean and uncolored, free of the buzz, smear, and boxiness that come through most loudspeakers—even the most expensive—no other product surpasses Fried.

Soundly built of high density materials with extensive cross-bracing, the Monitor 7 utilizes the latest evolution of our Free-Flow© transmission line: a passageway leading from the rear of the bass driver to a line folded three times vertically; tapering to vary the cross-sectional area, and terminating at the bottom front of the enclosure. This passageway is damped using the latest technology in open cell acoustical foam and other damping materials. These materials provide a smoother response, more effective cut off of unwanted frequencies and further reduce distorting back waves. The result is dramatically improved clarity and dynamics.

Each time cue from the original performance comes through delivering enhanced instrumental timbres, spatial placement, and the unique ambiance of the recording site. At the very lowest frequencies, the air in the line couples with the mid-bass driver to effectively create an enormous piston. The result is an effortless presentation—articulate, timbrally accurate and truthfully recreating the power and majesty of the original event.

 

DRIVERS WITH DISTINCTION
The Monitor 7 utilizes a duo of highly advanced drivers sourced from Danish Sound Technology. Our 6 1/2" mid-bass driver is engineered to ensure an effortless portrayal of the most dynamically contrasting sonic landscapes. The careful design of geometries and materials yields a stiff cone yet retains smooth upper-frequency roll-off characteristics.

The 6 1/2" driver features a motor system with a vented voice coil, NRSC cone geometry, low damping rubber surround, damped dust cap, magnesium free flow cast basket, and an inductance-reducing shorting ring. The totality of the design results in timbral accuracy, maximum dynamic linearity, enhanced resolution, and reduction of harmonic product generation.

The treble unit is a 1", dual concentric ring with wave guide center plug. Considered to be one of the finest tweeters in existence, it features outstanding dispersion and extended response to 40kHz. When combined with our mid-bass driver, maximum coherence, seamlessness and resolution are obtained.

 

UNPARALLELED CROSSOVER
The crossover is first order series in the Fried tradition. Leaving absolutely nothing to chance, the networks feature top of the line perfect-lay air core inductors and polypropylene film capacitors throughout, a feature normally reserved for the most expensive applications. Properly implemented series networks provide superior driver coherence, increased dynamic range and introduce a Doppler effect similar to live music that increases the sense of realism. Fried’s execution of this topology produces a loudspeaker with the intimacy and seamless nature of the best mini-monitors, while retaining the dynamic capabilities reserved for larger multi-way systems.

Because of the use of our specially designed drivers and true transmission line loading, the Monitor 7 is a highly “non-reactive” load that is inherently easy to drive and mates beautifully with all amplifier topographies ranging from 10 to 200 watts.
